Whether you are keen to enjoy some theatre or explore an immersive art exhibition. We’ve got loads of ideas for all ages and plenty of free fun for a more affordable half term in East London. These days things can get booked up fairly far in advance so we recommend getting organised early.

1 Imagine Children’s Festival

The Imagine Children’s Festival, spanning 11 days during February half-term, offers a diverse blend of theatre, comedy, music, literature, poetry, and family fun for kids aged 0-11. With a focus on inspiring creativity and embracing diversity, early years activities feature The David Gibb Big Band, a free Wondergig, and Tom Fletcher’s interactive adventures. Highlights include Motionhouse’s Starchitects: A Cosmic Adventure, talks by Children’s Laureate Joseph Coelho and Michael Rosen, YolanDa Brown’s new performance, CBeebies Ocean Adventure with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and various workshops and entertainment. 3 Around the Table: February Half Term Family Day

This February half-term at the Museum of the Home, families are invited to an experimental day of artist-led workshops across the Museum, including large-scale collective clay building with Cernamic co-founder Nam, placemat making with textile artist Kim Chin, and other family activities. Engage in open-ended, collaborative activities that encourage conversations and creativity in a relaxed environment. The sessions, designed as safe and welcoming spaces, are suitable for all ages.

4 Young V&A Family Workshop: Japanese Story Scroll

Join Julia Josephson to craft your own emakimono, a traditional Japanese visual storytelling scroll, at the Young V&A. Using objects from the museum’s collection, you’ll weave a narrative and transform it into a captivating story scroll through collage and illustration. This family workshop requires adult participation alongside children, with a recommended ratio of at least one adult per three children. Ideal for ages 8 and up.

5 A Migration Celebration!

7 Chicken Shed Takeover Day

Chickenshed performances to children team are coming to Discover for a half term takeover day, with two of their popular shows, Planet Play (0-3) and Tales From the Shed (0-7 years). Both performances are informal, lively and amazingly engaging as the performers and audience share the same space. Planet Play has been specifically devised to encourage play and early communication development in young children. Can be booked together with Box Rocket exhibition.

8 Valentines Family Barn Dance

All ages and abilities welcome for this whirly twirly giddying day of dancing and fun at Cut a Shine’s Family Barn Dance. They’ll teach you the moves from really simple dances for the smallest kids to a couple of proper ones for the grown ups, come and get your folk on with Cut A Shine! Suitable for children of all ages – They’ll mix up the sets with dances for really small kids and some for bigger kids and finish with a kid’s disco. Fully Stocked Bar, Coffee and Tea, Vegan chilli, cakes and healthy snacks. Buggy parking and a baby changing room along with soft play for crawlers. Kids can get their faces painted for £2.

9 The Great Big Dinosaur Show

Young dino fans will love this joyful blast of interactive live entertainment this February half term. Poet Simon Mole and musician Gecko will delight audiences of all ages with a family show full of clever and funny poems, raps and songs all about all your favourite prehistoric protagonists (and some you haven’t heard of yet). We’ve got tickets to give away!

10 Flip Out Canary Wharf

We’ve got a Flip Out in Tower Hamlets! Whoop whoop! With bumper cars, crazy carts, roller skating, interactive football, donut slide, gaming zones, ninja assault course and laser quest there’s enough to keep you entertained for hours in the warm and dry of this new epic indoor playground. There are no trampolines but there’s definitely enough to do.
