Community Parent Volunteer
Could you make a difference by supporting someone through pregnancy & early parenthood?
Pregnancy and early parenthood can be challenging at the best of times. Many parents are left feeling isolated and in need of support. That’s where Community Parents comes in – it’s an innovative local charity in East London which trains local parents to support families through their pregnancy and into their child’s first year. Community Parent volunteers offer emotional support, encouragement and motivation. They help expectant and new parents in to navigate their way through pregnancy and early parenthood.
Some of the things that Community Parent volunteers support families with include discussing birth options and helping to create a birth plan. They also introduce families to local services such as Children’s Centres, playgroups and baby activities. Volunteers receive free accredited training.
Since Community Parents was established in 2012, it has supported over 90 families with 1:1 peer support. The project also runs free and weekly pregnancy and postnatal pilates classes with a Social Drop-in session for families to meet and chat over refreshments. Community Parent Workshops are run three times a year – through hands-on learning activities and group reflections, the workshops help pregnant and new mothers to believe in themselves as well as to bond and attach more securely with their babies.
If you are interested in becoming a Community Parent volunteer, the next course begins on Tuesday 8th October 2019.
