Stay active with the kids

Wiki Places For Kids gives us some ideas for outside fun amidst restrictions

The great news is that attractions across the country are due to open up very soon. The bad news is that for soooo many of us, this won’t happen in time for the Easter holidays. So… yet again we are faced with the dilemma of how to keep the kids entertained, away from tablets and active!

Although we obviously LOVE a day out here at Wiki Places For Kids, I also have three kids who have a lot of energy to burn. So here’s a few things we will be doing to get them outside and exercising (without them even knowing it).

Kite Flying
You’ll know exactly what I mean… Getting one of these up in the air is no mean feat but when they are flying… WOW, how good does it feel to be in charge of a kite, soaring through the air? The great thing here is that to get said kite into the air, it takes many big run ups. This means that by the end of it, they’ve run miles. So you can hopefully enjoy your wine in complete peace that night while they sleep like babies.

Litter Picking
One of my favourites. For as little as £5, you can pick up a litter picker online. The kids love grabbing at things with it! You can collect loads. And it kills two birds – you are out in the fresh air, taking a walk, moving your body and cleaning up the environment at the same time! (Rubber gloves recommended too.)

Don’t expect the kids to join you in your world,

join them in theirs.

Frisbees
Whenever we visit Dunstable Downs we always take our Frisbee… just in case the wind isn’t strong enough. You’re bound to get them running around as these things seem to have a mind of their own half the time?? But it’s great fun and when they do actually manage to catch one, they celebrate like a Premier League footballer. Happy times!

Scooters
Literally have you tried scooting lately? It actually works your glutes and thighs soooo much more than I realised! So if you’ve got the opportunity and kids the right age, grab yourself an adult scooter (plenty on second hand sites) and get out there with the kids. I promise you will all feel the benefits later. And what’s the saying? Don’t expect the kids to join you in your world, join them in theirs.

Ball games
Nothing says sunny day to me like a game of cricket or rounders in the park. Getting a proper game in flow might be tricky right now given social restrictions, but a game of bat and ball can get them running and give you a chance to be fully present. Some awesome bonding time.

Cycling
The wind in your face and the endorphins pumping, free and out on the open road…country side or local green space… This was my go to activity daily through the lock down. For one, its a lot harder for the kids to argue when they are in single file and in charge of a bike!

I hope that these help and that you have a fab Easter. If you’ve not already downloaded it, our app will ping you to let you know what is open and what safety measures they have in place, up and down the country!

It’s a game changer for us time crunched parents and you’ll be helping to get the UK’s businesses, economy and families back on their feet each time you add a new place or review to our app. Download it via https://wikiplacesforkids.com/
