The Velveteen Rabbit – The Perfect Easter Activity in London

balletLorent is back at Sadler’s Wells breathing new life into the beloved story of the Velveteen Rabbit. The perfect Easter Activity in London.

Coming to the Lilian Baylis Studio, Sadler’s Wells from Friday 5th to Saturday 6th April, Margery William’s classic children’s tale of 102 years is having a whimsical dance theatre makeover for fresh eyes to see. For parents who grew up imagining the secret lives of their toys, the charm of sharing such a cherished masterpiece with your children will no doubt build new memories from old.

“Real isn’t how you are made,” said the Skin Horse. “It’s a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real.”

The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams

The Velveteen Rabbit sees a nursery of toys come to life through the magic of storytelling, music
and dance. In this heartwarming show, a stuffed rabbit and a grown-up boy wonder about the reality
of getting older. As shared adventures lead the toy rabbit to grow closer to the young boy who
sleeps and plays in the nursery, the pair discover the transformative power of love.

It’s wonderfully heartwarming and certainly some of the inspiration behind Pixar’s Toy Story.

And in true balletLorent fashion, you can expect something extraordinary. They’ve updated the tale with a new ending and some extra characters. Plus, it’s narrated by Ben Crompton from Game of Thrones, among others. The production features a talented cast of dancers, with music by Murray Gold, known for his work on Dr. Who.

The set and props are all very tactile and retro, hand-knitted by a group of women from Newcastle as part of a creative project.

If you’re looking for a great Easter activity in London, this will be a wonderful way to spend some family time together. Liv Lorent, the artistic director, mentioned that the themes of resilience and self-discovery in the show are timeless and perfect for inspiring kids to be their best selves.
