Hanging out in Hoxton and Shoreditch used to be just for 20-somethings. Many of those young people grew old (ouch) and had kids and the area is now surprisingly family-friendly. We’ve round up some of our favourite places in the area to bring the kids for a fun day out. Mix it up for even more fun!
1 Hoxton Hall
Hoxton Hall is a beautifully restored Victorian music hall that offers an array of family-friendly performances, including storytelling, puppet shows, and seasonal productions. The intimate setting makes it an ideal introduction to theatre for kids, while its lineup often features interactive elements that engage younger audiences. Don’t miss their kid friendly cabaret.

2 Museum of the Home
Once the Geffrye Museum, this free museum is part of the beautiful 18th-century Grade I-listed former almshouses on Kingsland Road in Hoxton. Perfect for curious kids and adults alike, the Museum of the Home provides an immersive look into how people lived across centuries. The rooms are beautifully recreated to reflect various time periods, and families can enjoy hands-on activities including old school video games and storytelling sessions. 3 Hoxton Street Monster Supplies
This quirky shop is a must-visit for families with a sense of humour with fun items to purchase like “Salt made from the Tears of Homeschooling” (a personal favourite during lockdown) and “Cubed Earwax”(actually really tasty toffee). Great gifts for those people who have everything! Your children can even write to Vampires and Dragons and get a letter back. Sure to spark those wild imaginations while sneakily supporting their creative writing. The shop’ is associated and proceeds go toward the Ministry of Stories who run workshops encouraging children to write. Listen to some of their brilliant work here.

4 Brittania Leisure Centre
A haven for active families, Britannia Leisure Centre offers a variety of sports and recreational activities. 5 Hackney City Farm
Hackney City Farm is a slice of countryside in the heart of the city. Families can meet friendly farm animals, including goats, pigs, and chickens, while learning about sustainable farming practices. The farm offers pottery classes and craft workshops, and its cozy café, Frizzante, serves fresh, locally sourced food. It’s a perfect spot for little animal lovers and those looking for a relaxed, educational day out.

6 Hackney BMX
Hackney BMX Club is a thrilling destination for active families, offering an opportunity to try BMX riding in a supportive environment. 7 Mama Shelter
A great place to stop for lunch if you fancy a break. There are old-school video games where children can play away to their heart’s content and an incredibly long foosball table which is also free. These extra features make it possible at times to even have a conversation. Although possible doesn’t not necessarily mean probable. There are no guarantees. The hotel’s restaurant offers a diverse menu, including kid-friendly meals, and the outdoor courtyard is perfect for relaxing. The venue also occasionally hosts events for families.

8 Colombia Road Flower Market
A bustling destination, Columbia Road Flower Market is a feast for the senses. The street comes alive with stalls selling a dazzling array of flowers, plants, and gardening supplies, creating a buzzing atmosphere for children and adults alike. Nearby independent shops, including toy stores and cafés, provide plenty of options for browsing and snacking. While this one is more for parents, and not the best for prams as it gets quite busy on a Sunday, is a sensory experience and a great place to learn about different types of flowers and pick out some favourites. If it gets too much head over to Hackney City Farm.

9 Avora Experience

Technically more Bethnal Green than Shoreditch, but definitely worth a visit if you are in the area!
