Calling future B Boys and B Girls! Join a funk-filled family day as Breakin’ Convention takes over Sadler’s Wells East with FREE activities and performances.
On Saturday the 25th April, families are invited to take part in a day of street dance and theatre at Sadler’s Wells East. For 23 years, Breakin Convention has been bridging the gap between hip hop dance and theatre, revolutionising the scene in London and reaching audiences across the world. While the main festival, starting on the 2nd March, is for ages 12+, the people at Sadler’s Wells East know it’s never too early to get started on a dance journey.
This is a party for your whole family, where you can enjoy free performances, food, community showcases, workshops, DJs, competition prizes and showcase your moves on the dance floor.
The day will be packed with spoken word and social dance activities, finishing with performances by the Academy Breakin’ Convention, X7, Get Into Dance and more. Throughout the day, kids can pick up a pen and learn to tag in the Graff Zone with Mr. Dance.

Breakin’ Convention International Festival of Hip Hop Dance Theatre
The main festival, which runs from the 2nd – 3rd of May, is for ages 12 and over. Due to the mature subject matter, as artists portray social themes such as discrimination, political issues and conflicts, inequality, and themes of an adult nature, age guidance is at the discretion of parents and carers. As the festival line-up changes, look out for the PG sign for shows where parental discretion is advised.
Hosted and curated by Jonzi D, the festival features the freshest works from globally acclaimed artists. You can expect live DJs, dance workshops, graffiti, emcees, and spontaneous cyphers all over Sadler’s Wells.
Dance Workshops
Please note: Participants must be 10 years or older (no exceptions), and observing without dancing is not permitted.
The Breakin’ Convention festival’s workshop programme is a serious hot house of technique, challenge and creativity. An incredible chance for teens and tweens who are dedicated dancers with 2 years or more of dance experience to hone their technique and try different styles of expression
From Crumping to Popping to Free Style and Electro, Hip Hop heads will be able to learn from some of the best hip hop, house and funk style talent.
