A Hysterical Horrible Christmas at Alexandra Palace – East End Kids Review

Head to the hills of London for a regal romp through the history of Christmas this festive season as Horrible Histories takes over Alexandra Palace with their Horrible Christmas, sneakily educating us all!

Horrible Histories Live on Stage returns with a festive twist in their beloved production, Horrible Christmas! Running until January 4th, this special extended version lights up the historic Alexandra Palace Theatre, promising a fun-filled adventure for the whole family.

When a mysterious figure in red threatens to erase Christmas, a courageous young boy must travel through time to save the day. Along the way, you’ll meet Medieval monks, Tudor royalty, Charles Dickens, King Henry VIII, and even St. Nicholas himself, all working together to keep the spirit of Christmas alive. Don’t miss this wild, time-traveling holiday adventure!

Ever wondered why we send Christmas cards, decorate trees, or feast on turkey during the holidays? Horrible Christmas answers these questions in a hilarious, history-packed journey through time.

You’ll learn everything you always wanted to know about Christmas (and perhaps a few things you didn’t want to know) at Horrible Histories Horrible Christmas.

We journeyed through time with a packed out theatre full of families learning fascinating facts about turkeys and Christmas Trees with the help of some very funny famous characters from Victorian times to biblical. From Charles Dickens to St Nicholas, the actors had us all in stitches with their very silly songs, fart jokes and gory details.

With singalongs, classic “behind you!” moments, and loads of laughs—but this is no ordinary panto, although audience participation was enthusiastically encouraged and people of all ages were in throws of laughter as we all joined in the fun.

The recently refurbished Alexandra Palace was a brilliant setting although getting out of the theatre at the same time as the World of Darts competition came to an end was somewhat amusing. I don’t think the children had ever seen so many of their favourite characters “watering the trees” in the grounds of Alexandra Palace before! You might want to get out as soon as the performance ends to avoid the crowds. We lingered.

Alexandra Palace is a great setting for a festive performance none the less, with so much history and views for miles. Why not book an ice skating trip for the family and make a day of it?
