We loved our vegan delivery of food inspired by Bangalore with a refreshing Cabbage Thoran, sweet and tangy roasted Pumpkin and Pea Gassi, and warming Sambhar Dal served with Matta Rice and Roti. Each little tin came bursting with flavour and it was such a delight to open each one and see what was inside. The meal was perfectly complimented by crisp samosas and chappati with zingy ginger chutney.
When the food arrives by bike courier it feels as though you’ve had a delivery from a kind neighbour. No surprise then that DabbaDrop was founded by two neighbourhood friends, Anshu Ahuja and Renee Williams. The meals are delivered in Mumbai’s famous reusable stainless-steel tiffin boxes known as dabbas. Old dabba tins are swapped on delivery with fresh ones filled with delicious dals and wholesome, vibrant curries, rice and roti. Sides are packaged in compostable pots and paper bags meaning all deliveries are single-use plastic-free.
DabbaDrop’s healthy vegan delivery service was inspired by the Indian dabbawalla tradition of lunch delivery and return and made with Anshu’s family recipes. Now you can enjoy an authentic Indian experience in your own home with very little effort. You simply separate the tins and pop them in the oven to reheat.
All the meals are vegan, refined sugar and preservative-free. The menu changes weekly taking inspiration from the regional cuisines of India and featuring the best seasonal ingredients with bold, bright flavours. Packed with nutritious fresh vegetables, protein-rich pulses and delicious spices.
Younger more tender palates are catered for with smoother textures, less salt and gentle spices. Our 6 year old found the children’s dal a little spicy so we cooled it down with a spoon of natural yoghurt. He was fine although no longer vegan, but he isn’t anyways. He really enjoyed the samosas and loved the novelty of using the Roti instead of a fork.
The portions were very generous and we even had some leftovers for lunch the next day.
