Exterior of Bard Books, a charming independent bookstore on Roman Road, featuring a cozy storefront with large windows showcasing books and inviting interiors

Support Indie at Bard Books on Roman Road

Roman Road’s Bard Books is more than a bookstore—it’s a cozy hub for readers, wine lovers, and the community. With curated books and local events, it’s a vibrant addition to the high street.

Have you been to Bard Books on Roman Road? When a new independent bookstore opens on your local high street and replaces an estate agent, it’s definitely worthy of celebration especially if it is also a wine bar!

We need books, not bookies or estate agents and we need wine. Yes, lashings of wine and books, please. Whether you’re after respite from reality or the answers to all your burning questions, Bard Books is a treasure trove for the curious, the connoisseur and the romantic.  Independent bookstores like Bard Books offer a more relaxed peruse than the Waterstones of Westfield while supporting local.

And with book clubs, events and tables to gather at, Bard Books is more than a store – it is a place to create community.

Santa Supports Local

Bookstores are brilliant places to find meaningful gifts for friends and family and every child should get at least one book for Christmas (even if they would rather have a new LEGO Marvel set).

What I love about gift shopping in a bookshop is it gives you a great chance to really think about the person you are buying for and the conversations you have had over the years. Books are great ways to take a conversation further, especially if you buy the same book for yourself or just sneakily read theirs before you give it to them – just don’t spill any wine on it!

Bard’s book selection is excellent for adults and children alike. They have curated books that reflect diverse voices, niche topics, and lesser-known authors. And while it doesn’t fall into any of those categories, my son was chuffed to bits with his signed copy of Diary of a Wimpy Kid despite being a reluctant reader. You can even order if you need something specific that isn’t in stock with 48 hrs notice.

Author Events and more

Aspiring authors and literature fans will appreciate the way the bookstore supports emerging authors with regular events and talks.

With a wide selection of events for all ages, covering everything from open mic and cinematography to heroic elves. It’s worth keeping an eye on what they’re up to.
