From mud kitchens to minibeast hunts, now children as young as 2 can muck in at this forest school in Hackney Wick.
Did you know that allowing children to explore nature and get their hands dirty is great for their development? Your little one’s early years are formative, they are all little scientists, testing their environment (and sometimes their parents) in order to understand how it all works.
Unfortunately, the settings they find themselves in often set limits on their experiences.
Numerous studies show that exposure to the endless possibilities only nature can provide helps young children encounter new opportunities for decision making that stimulate problem solving and creativity. That’s why it’s great this forest school in Hackney Wick is now welcoming younger children.

They might be able to teach you a thing or two…
Children learn about the trees that live in the forest by making woodland crowns, leaf art, and nature trails. They learn self-reliance and handy skills like how to put up a shelter. The team will guide the children as they learn how to: source the equipment, tie the required knots, keep the shelter tight, safely use tools to make pegs from sticks, and to work as a team.
Creativity gone wild!
Along with bushcraft skills children will also have fun creating masterpieces by making paintbrushes using the woodland materials around them, making mud faces, and leaf printing.
Greenways Forest School in Hackney Wick was established in response to observations of years working with children across London. Witnessing a distinct and worrying alienation from the natural world, their team made it their mission to get children back into nature and enjoy all it has to offer.
