All the best stuff to do for East End Kids and their crew!

The image from East End Kids depicts a stunning scene from Lost in Light, blending urban art with immersive lighting. A graffiti-covered wall forms the backdrop, illuminated by glowing orbs suspended in mid-air. The room is filled with a reflective surface, enhancing the surreal atmosphere as light scatters across the space. A silhouette of a child interacting with the environment adds a human element, inviting viewers to imagine themselves immersed in this dynamic, otherworldly experience.

Lost in Light: Squid Soup Review

Fancy a light show that’s urban, original and exciting? We went along to see Squid Soup’s Lost in Light and discovered a captivating experience for all ages.

It was a Sunday morning when I told the 9-year-old that we were going to an art thing to which he moaned, “uarrh, mum” in protest. Perhaps you know the tone?

A lecture followed about being curious and open-minded and off we zoomed to Shoreditch on the bus. Arriving at Lost in Light, we were instantly greeted by the friendliest and most welcoming staff I think I’ve ever encountered at an art exhibition! They explained the concept over 5 Rooms.

Exploring the Five Rooms of Lost in Light

  • Circular Echoes
A glowing ring of orbs dance harmoniously with haunting sounds, illuminating graffiti-covered walls. It was mesmerising but not quite as captivating for the 9-year-old who still hadn’t quite got into it.
  • Infinite
This is where my son’s imagination took off! It reminded me of Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirror Rooms with a more interactive and urban feel (and without the crazy queues!). My son had a blast dancing around the orbs, while my husband admired how the 352 orbs created a symphony of light and sound. I found the beanbags incredibly inviting and could’ve lounged there for hours just listening and watching the way everyone interacted with the art.
  • Three Volumes
A striking new installation from Squid Soup featuring three light cubes moving to different rhythms and patterns. We tried out different perspectives—standing, lying down, and interacting with our own videos. The beanbags under the cubes allowed you to get
  • Sola
This one really packed a punch. A wall of light and sound cubes reflects the raw power of nature, combined with the unsettling reminder of humanity’s destructive role within it. The interplay of blinding sunlight and haze created a surreal, quite jarring, almost primal experience.
  • Submergence
Our family favourite! This immersive piece bridges the digital and physical worlds with a 14-minute track by Ollie Brown and Three Drums by Four Tet (Get a babysitter for the lates with DJs mums n dads!). Rows of glowing orbs in vivid colours filled the space, and children dashed around giggling with pure joy. We played a kind of “floor is lava,” carefully dodging the delicate orbs while soaking in the kaleidoscope of colours and sounds.

A Family-Friendly Experience in Shoreditch

The best part? The staff were incredibly relaxed and welcoming, even when kids were enthusiastically exploring the installation in the Submergence room (please do remember the orbs are fragile). By the end, my 9-year-old was grinning ear to ear, totally won over.

Who wouldn’t love it? It’s like stepping into a whole new world where light and sound make art feel alive, as if you’re part of it.

Squid Soup’s work has been showcased globally, and it’s easy to see why. Lost in Light is a must-see, blending innovation, creativity, and fun into an unforgettable sensory journey.
