An all ages celebration of indie music from Grunge to Britpop with plenty of new bands playing original and nostalgic tunes. Oh and this time, We Can Be Heroes featured Stella Creasy MP on the decks!
My son is getting harder to please these days. Being cool is moving higher up the priority list than having fun and being silly – BORING! So, when it comes to days out we need to be choosey. I thought I’d take him along to We Can Be Heroes Indie Party and revisit my youth which is now “retro” after all.
We Can Be Heroes venue, Signature Brew, a spacious industrial brewery provides the perfect gig backdrop with a great selection of beers and American-inspired burgers. The vibe is very community, a reflection of promoters Theodora and her partner’s warm and welcoming personalities.
The last one we went to was surf punk-inspired and featured the riotously fun fez-adorned and flamboyant Bikini Beach Band. Every child gets a free blow-up guitar so you can all “play along” with the bands or hit each other over the head with them. Either way, it’s all rock n roll, baby!

This time, the bands played a mix of 90s sounds and included Last Minute, The Outbacks and Dom Green’s Indie Scene were awesome. It was the Outbacks first ever gig and they smashed it! So great to see teens on stage and their friends who came along, all ages mingling. Their presence added some cool cred for the 9-year-old for which I was grateful. Most importantly, the kids had fun.
We Can Be Heroes throw fun events regularly throughout the year. Get your tickets early because this one is bound to sell out quickly!
